Customer Rating: Summary: Works for rashes, and as sunblock! Comment: I used this stuff on my babies when they had diaper rash. It works, not necessarily better than other diaper rash meds, but it works just fine, and it has natural ingredients.
The natural ingredients in this are what inspired me to mosey back over to the baby aisle now that my kids are a little older and have started having skin reactions to standard sunblock. I went to the store looking for sunblock that had zinc oxide as it's only active ingredient with only natural other ingredients. Actually, I went to a few stores looking for that. And I looked online and found what I was looking for, but at a high price. And then someone reminded me that diaper rash ointment contains zinc oxide. Sure enough, Butt Paste was the answer! My kids spent 2 hours today in full 90-degree sun, in and out of the water, and the "sunblock" stayed on and they are not burnt. Woo-hoo! Found my all-natural sunblock. And the kids think it's hilarious to be smearing Butt Paste on their faces. Because it's a beige color it doesn't look as ghostly on the skin as other natural sunblocks I've seen.
Customer Rating: Summary: Thick and difficult to wipe off Comment: Here are my concerns:
1. When we first opened the tube, the ointment was VERY difficult to get out. I had to squeeze very hard.
2. It has a brownish color to it, which sometimes looks like you didn't clean off all the mess during the previous diaper change.
3. It is difficult to wipe off, which only aggravates an already sensitive area if the baby has a rash. This happened when my son got his first and only true diaper rash. I then switched to Desitin, which I like much better.
4. I just don't like the smell of this ointment. I know that's not a deal breaker but it bothers me, so we only use it occasionally since we have an open tube that needs to be used.
5. It doesn't spread easy. It's very thick so it takes some work to spread around, again creating more difficulty for rashy bottoms.
Once we used the product for awhile (I mean once every 2 days or so for 2 months) it started squeezing out of the tube much easier, going on easier and wiping off easier. I only use diaper rash cream to prevent rashes, mainly at night, and we alternate this with Desitin. Still, I prefer Desitin since it did all these things from the first use. Bottom line - I wouldn't buy this product again and I wouldn't recommend it to a friend.
Customer Rating: Summary: Good, butt not the best Comment: Boudreaux's Butt Paste is a very good product that does exactly what it says it will. It prevents the pain of diaper rash, and creates a barrier to prevent further aggravation.
I would give it 5 stars, but since I have found Desitin to be a slightly better product, I have to mark Butt Paste down just a notch.
It is greasier than Desitin, which I have found to be not quite as effective due to the fact that it wears off more quickly than Desitin.
While Boudreaux's Butt Paste is a very good product, considering that Desitin is $1.00 cheaper, and lasts a little longer, I would go with Desitin.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great for Razor Burn Comment: I originally purchased Boudreaux's Butt Paste in hopes that it might help relieve a poison ivy rash. Though I'm well aware that this isn't its intended use, I practically live outside from the months of April through October, and suffer from all manner of skin ailments: poison ivy, oak and sumac rashes; rashes caused by nettles and prickles; even allergic reactions to bug bites. Thus, I'm always on the lookout for OTC rash remedies. While searching online last year, I noticed several recommendations for Boudreaux's Butt Paste in alleviating the symptoms of contact dermatitis, so I decided to try it out.
While it's proven ineffectual in treating poison ivy and the like, I'm happy to report that Boudreaux's is moderately helpful in healing razor burn, as well as the itchiness and irritation caused by plucked hairs growing back in. While the smell isn't exactly "pleasant" as promised, it's not awful, either - I've smelled worse. It does go on a little thick, though.
Moral of the story: hang onto those seemingly worthless skin creams and ointments, because you never know - they might be helpful later on down the line. Speaking from experience - I have a medicine cabinet full of Bendryl spray, Calamine lotion, Cortizone 10, Ivy Dry, Caladryl Clear, Aveeno anti-itch lotion, Tea Tree gel, Aloe Vera Supergel, Calagel, etc. - what doesn't work on one ailment may be just what the doctor ordered for another.
Alas, I don't have any kiddos, so I can't review Boudreaux's-as-a-butt-paste.
Customer Rating: Summary: LOVE the BUTT PASTE Comment: LOVE this stuff. My perfect recipe for a healthy baby bum: water, not wipes, and the Boudreaux's Butt Paste. Also, it's fun to say out loud.
